I just got home from our 3rd ultrasound appt this morning. Our appt was at 10am but we didn't get called back until almost noon. Dr Seeker is so good at what he does that he's very popular and therefore gets behind sometimes. So anyway, our baby was VERY active today! We watched on the screen as our baby was kicking it's legs and feet and moving it's arms and hands all over the place! So cool to see it moving so much like that. Our baby is measuring exactly 10w4d - which is what I am today, so he's moved my due date back to February 8th instead of the 9th. Our baby is just over an inch and a half long, 3.73cm to be exact!
We go back on August 1st to have a special ultrasound on a larger machine than what we've been using so far. Special attention will be given to measurement of normal "clear zone" called the nuchal lucency behind the baby's neck. Nuchal lucency measurements less than 3mm have been associated with a 90-95% reduction in chromosomal disorders (such as Down's Syndrome). We should also get to hear the baby's heart beat at the doctors office then, even though we've already heard it at home using the Doppler we rented.
On today's ultrasound, it's not really clear what you are looking at, so I'll help you out. The baby is laying sideways, w/the head down a little lower than the feet. The head is on the left and the feet are on the right. We should find out at our 16w appt if it's a girl or a boy, which will be sometime the last week in August. Can't wait to find out, so we can start getting the nursery ready!!!
